Launching Audio Description in the UK
There are 2 million blind and partially sighted people in the UK who are unable to get the full enjoyment from watching televison.
Thankfully, Audio Description (AD) is free additional commentary for TV that narrates what’s happening on-screen. And Royal National Institute for the Blind asked us to help them promote it.
It’s law that all TV broadcasters must promote their AD programmes, so first we created a logo and descriptor line which can be used by broadcasters and companies across the industry (including TV manufacturers, e.g. Sony) to give a consistent identity.
Then, taking the speech bubble mnemonic from the logo, we created an integrated campaign across TV, press, TV listings, inserts, leaflets and radio.
(Well, we didn’t use the speech bubble on radio, obviously.)
